Both my grandfathers and their families moved from Pak to India post partition. My paternal grandfather who lived with us, did not speak much. Not once did he say a bad word against the religion or people who made him a refugee in his own country. He wanted to live quietly. He talked but v. little. I wonder if he carried the pain of having lost everything. Including his wife, who died after partition and before they could move into their new house. The trauma for Hindus is real. Those who speak up are still made to feel bad or made to feel that they are 'mischief mongers'. 'Why can't you keep quiet?" But think of Native Americans, they are pushed away on a smaller piece of land than what they had access to. And now so few in number that any possibility of reclaiming the land is not possible. Not enough inheritors left. Hindus have a long way to go and correct everything from demography, TFR and bring a level of pride to be able to wear their identity without fear. Thanks for this podcast. Prof. Mitra's voice is calm but stern. Comes from experience.
