What is the Objective?

Why Ishavasya Upanishad?
Ishavasya Upanishad is the first of 108 Upanishads and is just 18 shlokas. It is special because it is the only Samhita Upanishad meaning, the only Upanishad derived directly from the 40th chapter of Shukla Yajurveda. Learning Isopanishad is often equated to learning the synthesis of entire Vedas.
Sri Adi Shankaracharya himself wrote in his commentary on Ishavasya Upanishad in 800 CE - “Therefore these verses remove one’s natural ignorance about the Self through the revelation of the true nature of the Self, and thereby produce the knowledge of the oneness etc. of the Self, which is the means for uprooting of sorrow, delusion, etc., incidental to mundane existence”. Ishavasya Upanishad is about the nature of our true Identity.
Why Upanishad for Children?
Children who learn an entire Upanishad will feel self-confident and take pride in their Hindu heritage. They will see firsthand that the Upanishads are not some exotic scripture beyond the reach of the common person.
They will take the first step toward discovering their true Identity. The core meaning of the Ishavasya Upanishad is that the entire Universe is enveloped by divine consciousness, and we ourselves are that. It encourages active engagement with life while balancing it with spiritual knowledge. Internalizing this meaning can help children become noble, free of hate toward anyone, and full of love for all.
Getting the verses by heart and chanting are good for children’s brain development, memory, and focus. The younger they are, the easier it is for them to learn the verses by heart. They will not need a book for reference once they learn it. The verses will keep coming back to them at different stages of life, and they will understand layers of meaning as they grow older, decade by decade.
It will also give them a taste of core Hindu knowledge and the sound of the Vedas. It’s a unique opportunity to use the summer holidays productively.
When will the course begin?
This is a 12-day Summer Workshop - from June 15, 2026 to June 28, 2026.
Is it online?
Yes, the workshop is ONLINE. We will send a zoom link upon registration.
What are the timings?
9:00 am IST daily (45 minute sessions)
Note: Saturdays, June 20 and June 27, will be holidays.
Who is the Instructor?
Śrī Ramakrishna Kongalla is an assistant professor of Indian Culture and Heritage at the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM), Government of India (GOI), Gwalior. A member of the parliamentary committee of Arts for Central Vista, he is a photographer at heart, working for the Reclaim Temples movement.
His interests include photographing temples across India and digitally reconstructing the ruined temples to their original forms. His specialisation is Heritage Interpretation, and he has travelled extensively in Bhārata, training tour guides across the country. He is also one of the content writers for the IITFC online course by the Ministry of Tourism, GOI, along with serving as a mentor for the Ministry of Education Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) initiative under National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
He is active on social media and writes extensively on Temple Architecture and their Iconography with handles like lost_temples & @artist_rama.
Who is organising this course?
Hindu Parenting is organising this course. Our classes are conceptualised and designed specially for the modern Hindu child, teenager and young adult. These breadth and relevance of the subjects we cover make them attractive for adults too. We encourage parent participation. Make learning a parent-child activity!
Who can enrol?
The course is open to anyone over the age of 8. If you wish your child younger than 8 to be part of this activity, please ensure that you also attend with your child.
How much does it cost?
2500/- INR for the entire course. Price applicable only to Indian residents. You can pay via UPI. (See below for participants from outside India).
What if I miss a session?
The classes will be recorded and the recordings will be made available to everyone enrolled in the course.
Will my child get a certificate of course completion?
Everyone who is enrolled and completes the course will get a certificate from Hindu Parenting!
I am 60 years old. Can I also attend?
Everyone is welcome to make use of this opportunity to learn the Isopanishad! There is no age-limit for learning.
What if I live outside India?
If you live in Australia, the fees will be $120 AUD, for USA it is $120 USD. (Computed as $10/day for 12 days). Payment will be via Paypal. We will send the link to you on registration. We are also planning special timings for North America in June, do register now and we will accommodate your timings depending on the number of registrations from your time zone).
